Portfolio Review

Summary

Portfolio Review is part of our capstone class called "Portfolio Workshop".  This is our capstone class where students get the chance to have their portfolios reviewed by 30 to 40 people from the industry.  In the last 8 years Tom Shillea and I have been building a strong relationship with industry designers as well as getting a chance to see our graduating students receive jobs and ultimately come back as alumni to the portfolio review.

Highlights

Industry Designers

We bring in about 30 to 40 industry designers every year. This portfolio consists of a full day of designers reviewing student portfolios. We are one the ONLY schools in the valley that offers this.

Job Opportunities

This portfolio allows industry design firms the chance to not only review portfolios but get a chance to hire our students during that day. Design firms typically hire 4-5 students each year directly from this portfolio.

Alumni Connections

This portfolio have provided our graduate students who now in the design industry a chance to give back. I never would have thought over the years this would be how it was. It is great to see our students be alumni and give back to our Communication Program. The network has grown drastically because of this portfolio review.

Assessment

Each year we give a survey to all of the designers who come to our portfolio. The survey consists of questions and areas where they can give us feedback on where our students stand in industry standards. This allows us to change and format our courses to keep current with design standards. See Assessment link for in-depth surveys.
